Philippine Justice Minister Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Wednesday (September 4) that he still suspects some personnel from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) were involved in the July departure of dismissed Banban Mayor Alice Guo, also known as the POGO Mayor, and her siblings.
Remulla stated at a press conference that the investigation into Guo's "escape" is still ongoing.
"We suspect that some immigration officers are involved," he said.
Remulla recalled the Pastillas scam, which allowed Chinese citizens to enter the country illegally.
"So we know for sure that there are people in the immigration doing these things. 'This is our current focus," he said.
