Following the announcement of the new National Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport, the National Association of Games and Lotteries affirmed that it demonstrates the government's commitment to advancing regulation.
Brazil.- After the Ministry of Sports appointed Giovanni Rocco Neto National Secretary of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport, the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) expressed its satisfaction with the appointment which, in the opinion of the entity, represents the national government's commitment to regulating the gaming sector. Rocco Neto will need to work in collaboration with the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), from the Ministry of Finance.
“The ANJL welcomes the secretary and is available to collaborate with the new Secretariat, just as it already did with the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting,” stated the president of the ANJL, Plínio Lemos Jorge.
“This dialogue between private agents and the Union, which according to the Federal Constitution has the regulatory power of the sector, is very important so that the vision of the actors is present at all discussion tables. We are confident that the arrival of Rocco Neto will add to the efforts already made by the operators and the SPA for an honest and responsible market,” added Lemos.
With a degree in Law and a postgraduate degree in Political Science, Giovanni Rocco Neto has experience in the Legislative and Executive branches. Rocco stood out as president of the Association in Defense of Integrity, Rights, and Duties in Games and Betting and followed the approval of Bill 2234/22 in the Senate Federal Constitution and Justice Committee and played a significant role in the institutional work in the National Congress during the voting of bill 3626/23, turned into Law 14.790/23, which taxed companies and bettors, defined rules for the operation of the service, and determined the distribution of revenues from sports betting and online games.
The National Secretariat of Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport is responsible for: conducting studies and planning, coordinating, and supervising actions that promote the development of the sports market, with the aim of facilitating access to equipment and structures and improving national sport at all levels.
In the area of sports betting, the new National Secretariat will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the unpredictability of sports events and results, in addition to planning, coordinating, and implementing alliances with public and private entities, both national and international, to maintain the integrity of sports betting, with the aim of detecting, combating, and preventing the manipulation of sports events and results.

The new ministerial body will be responsible for working in collaboration with other federal public administration bodies, the States, the Federal District, and the Municipalities in the prevention and combat of the manipulation of sports betting, within the competencies of the Secretariat.
