Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla called on municipalities to express the ban in their local regulations as this would help combat crime.
Mexico.- Amid the project of renewing 112 municipalities within the state of Michoacán, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced that he is working with municipal presidents on signing the Public Security Agreement, but in this context, they are being asked not only for coordination but also a series of specific issues, such as the modification of their commercial, industrial, and service regulations.
In his traditional weekly press conference held at Casa Michoacán, the leader stated that it is important for municipal authorities to set in their regulations the explicit prohibition in their territories of mini casinos, slot machines, and betting machines which constitute another variant in the criminality operating in the state.
“It should be expressly prohibited under the regulatory authority of the municipalities to install, operate, market, and function mini casinos, slot machines, little betting games, or betting machines,” pointed out Ramírez Bedolla.
According to him, these types of spaces where the machines are installed, are hotspots of crime since they generate violence in the homes where they are located and in many cases, these are installed by criminal groups, to have a place to gather people, and promote the sale of illicit substances of all kinds. In previous months, several installation centers were detected where people were murdered, so both the state and municipal governments began working on the issue.
