Manila, Philippines—According to Rappler, the Marcos administration will cancel the work visas of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) employees by October 15, to allow them time to smoothly leave the Philippines after their employers cease operations.
By that date, most POGO employees from China will lose their commercial 9G visas (also known as pre-arranged employment visas). They will be able to obtain a tourist visa valid for 60 days to catch up with the president's full implementation of the POGO ban by the end of 2024.
The commercial 9G visa is issued to foreigners working for companies with a business license in the Philippines. This type of visa allows the holder to enter and exit the Philippines multiple times during their employment period and to stay in the Philippines for a duration, but not exceeding their employment contract.
Only applicants holding a foreign employment permit issued by the Philippine Department of Labor are eligible for this visa.
This allows foreign workers to have time to leave the Philippines, as their employers will close down the online gambling industry ban by the end of the year.
