The court in Tarlac Province, Philippines, has issued an arrest warrant for the dismissed Mayor of Banban, Tarlac, Guo Huaping, on charges of corruption.
In the arrest warrant issued by Branch 109 of the Tarlac District Trial Court in Capas, authorities were instructed to arrest Guo Huaping.
The court set her bail at 90,000 pesos for violating Sections 3(e) and 3(h) of Republic Act No. 3019, also known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The arrest warrant stems from complaints filed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government to the Office of the Ombudsman against Ms. Guo and other local officials, alleging her connection with a raided offshore gaming operator (POGO) in Banban, Philippines.
Philippine Senate President Francis Escudero stated that according to the arrest warrant from the Tarlac court, the appropriate law enforcement agencies will detain Guo Huaping.
"Since this is a warrant issued by the court, she should be processed first. She will be brought to us only if she posts bail," Escudero said in a text message.
(She should be processed first, as this is a warrant issued by the court. She will be brought to us only if she posts bail.)
She was handed over to Philippine officials by Indonesian authorities in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon (September 5) and arrived in the Philippines that evening.
The former mayor faces charges of human trafficking related to the sealed POGO center in Banban, as well as money laundering charges filed by the Department of Justice.
She also faces a petition for a writ of amparo filed by the Manila court, and a petition to cancel her birth certificate filed by the Tarlac court.
