Philippine Interior Minister Benhur Abalos stated that the dismissed mayor of Banban, Alice Guo, fled the country because she feared for her life.

At a press conference on Friday morning (September 6) after arriving from Indonesia, Abalos said: "Guo mentioned she was concerned about her safety, hence she left the country."

He added: "We told her to lay everything out, the police will protect you... It's important that we know the truth."

Guo confirmed Abalos's statement at the same press conference.

"I confirm everything the minister said, I sought their help, and I am glad to have met them, I feel safe," Guo stated.

Earlier, in a Facebook video of Abalos's meeting with Guo on Thursday afternoon (September 5) in Jakarta, Guo said: "Minister, help me. I have received death threats."

Not all of Abalos's responses were heard, but he mentioned: "That's why we chartered a private plane..."

Abalos and General Rommel Marbil, head of the Philippine National Police, went to Indonesia to take custody of Guo.

Abalos mentioned that Guo was informed of the charges against her on the plane, which were related to the Tarlac court. The arrest warrant was issued later on Thursday afternoon.

He stated that Guo was arrested in Indonesia based on a Senate arrest warrant.

According to the arrest warrant, Guo will stay at Camp Crame for a while, then be taken to Tarlac on Friday morning.

If she posts bail, the Senate is expected to detain her for not attending the hearing.

Abalos mentioned that Philippine authorities were not sure if they could bring Guo back when they went to Indonesia.

He said this was achieved through a memorandum of understanding between the Philippine and Indonesian police.

Abalos stated they had to bring Guo back before 1 AM because Indonesian law requires charges to be filed within 24 hours, otherwise the detainee must be released.

He mentioned that the private plane used to bring Guo back was a friend's, and the government did not need to pay for its use.

Despite Guo's name being on the immigration watch list, she left the country in July.

Guo arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City a few minutes past 1 AM on Friday, aboard a private plane.

She is facing human trafficking charges from the Department of Justice.

In a statement, the Bureau of Immigration also mentioned that Guo faces charges under Philippine immigration law for undesirability and misrepresentation.

Knowing too much, involving too many stakeholders, it's normal that some people want her dead.
