On September 5th local time, the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) completed the analysis of about 30,000 workers affected by the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma revealed during the Senate Finance Committee hearing that the number of affected workers documented so far has reached 30,000, with the analysis of the remaining 10,000 workers still ongoing.
Laguesma stated: "The goal of the Department of Labor is to complete the assessment of workers' skills, wages, and job descriptions by September, and to provide technical education and skills training for those in need. The Department will also hold specialized job fairs to help these workers find new employment."
In addition, the Department of Labor will provide employment and livelihood programs, assist workers in obtaining employment certificates, and strive to eliminate industry-related discrimination caused by negative stigmas.
Laguesma emphasized that the Department of Labor is not only focused on facilitating employment and enhancing skills but also committed to supporting the families of legal workers.
Moreover, Laguesma mentioned in the Malacañang Palace insider program on Thursday, "So far, we have not received any reports of unemployed workers. However, DOLE-National Capital Region (NCR) is monitoring the situation, as most IGLs are located in the NCR."
