Manila, Philippines — Dismissed Mayor of Banban, Guo Huaping, her "sister" Guo Xila, and other defendants facing 87 charges of money laundering could face imprisonment ranging from 609 to 1,218 years.
This is according to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) of the Philippines, as each charge corresponds to 7 to 14 years of imprisonment.
Philippine senators urged Guo Xila to speak the truth at the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights hearing.
However, Xila insisted on telling their story of leaving the country.
According to her, she, Guo Huaping, and Guo Huaping's brother Wesley traveled from their farm in Banban, Tarlac Province, in a truck to an unnamed dock. They drove through the Balintawak toll gate and passed by Skyway. The group departed from the dock and traveled by boat until they reached Sabah, Malaysia. However, Senator Huntiveros revealed that their first stop in Malaysia was not Sabah but Kuala Lumpur.
