The data comes from a survey conducted with 3,622 people from different social classes and age groups in the city of São Paulo.

Brazil.- Fecomércio SP published a survey indicating that 17 percent of São Paulo residents are active users of online betting platforms. This percentage aligns with the international average, comparable to that of the United States, where the rate varies between 10 and 15 percent.

Regarding spending, about 71 percent of bettors allocate between R$ 50 and R$ 100 monthly for betting. These data suggest that most users fit the profile of a “small gambler”.

Among the bettors, 42 percent bet for fun, 25 percent aim to quickly increase their income, 17 percent see betting as entertainment, 9 percent consider it an investment, and 6 percent admit to being addicted.

The survey also inquired about where the money would go if it were not spent on gambling: 41 percent would use it for leisure and entertainment, while 20 percent would use it to pay bills.

Nearly half (44 percent) of online betting site users report that they lose more than they win with their bets. Conversely, 30 percent claim to have more gains than losses, while 26 percent indicate that their bets are balanced, with no significant gains or losses.
