Through this initiative, the effectiveness of already implemented measures such as the reduction of the number of gambling machines in hospitality venues and control over gambling advertising will be assessed.
Spain.- The Generalitat Valenciana has launched its new Comprehensive Strategy for the Prevention and Treatment of Pathological Gambling, which will be in effect until 2027. One of the objectives of the plan is to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of implemented measures, such as the reduction of the number of gambling machines in hospitality venues and control over gambling advertising.
Through the initiative, the Generalitat Valenciana seeks to strengthen existing regulations and adapt them to current needs, in order to mitigate the harmful effects of gambling on society.
The plan includes an analysis of the restrictions already applied, such as the suspension of new licenses for gambling establishments and the reduction in the use of type B machines. Additionally, public awareness campaigns and advertising control policies will be reviewed. The role of security forces and inspection in controlling activities will also be studied.
Furthermore, the strategy promotes the prohibition of the use of credit cards in gambling venues. The initiative will be complemented with training campaigns aimed at teachers, health professionals, and social workers. Prevention of gambling among minors will also be reinforced through educational and awareness programs.
Meanwhile, in July, the Department of Finance, Economy, and Public Administration approved the Valencian Community Gambling Inspection Plan for the triennium 2024-2026. The finance minister, Ruth Merino, published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana the resolution that approves the triennial plan, as an "appropriate tool to know the level of compliance with current regulations" and aimed at "pursuing and eradicating the practice of prohibited games."
The Valencian Community launched its first Gambling Observatory, which will provide real social data related to gambling in the community. This is an initiative developed in collaboration between the Polytechnic University of Valencia through the Institute of Design and Manufacturing (IDF), the University of Valencia, and the Association of Recreational Machine Entrepreneurs of the Valencian Community.
