Super Affiliates co-founder Alessandro Valente discussed how operators can attract new audiences through social media platforms, calling the Brazilian Supreme Court's decision to ban X (Twitter) "the worst decision".
During a panel discussion at the SBC Digital Affiliate Marketing Day, he revealed that the social media platform owned by Elon Musk has a strong influence in Brazil and is used by influencers across various industries.
Valente added that this has led to a large number of diplomatic issues, not only between companies but also involving other countries, and he detailed that this will be the main topic of his meeting with a Brazilian minister next week.
Valente expressed concern about the principles he established, noting that the state of Rio had previously tried to block the site, resulting in a nationwide blockage—Valente described this situation as "a mess".
Valente said: "Blocking news is too much—if Brazil is a democratic country, we should not see such things," he expressed concern for companies that invest heavily in advertising and influencers who make a living from social media.
TipsterChat CEO Carlos Sanchez subsequently warned that he believes such actions will increasingly occur: "We will see the government's restrictions on platforms becoming stricter, and the platforms' restrictions on industries like betting and gambling also becoming stricter."
He pointed out that the ban on using Telegram in various regions is another example of why it is so important for betting tipsters and gambling influencers to have a platform dedicated to their work.
Both agreed that educating influential people is crucial when moving forward in a challenging regulatory environment like Brazil.
Smart Social Brasil CEO Luiz Felippe Correia de Almeida emphasized that the decision highlights the importance of investing in diversification of platforms and channels.
He revealed that this week he had discussions with some influencers whose main source of income was reduced due to Brazil's X ban. De Almeida believes this is a lesson that influencers and brands need to learn, to reduce risks and realize that "every social activity they engage in is just renting space".
Earlier this week, the Brazilian Supreme Court upheld the decision to ban X from operating in Brazil, which elicited strong opposition from Elon Musk. The ban was issued after X failed to appoint a new legal representative in Brazil on time.
Clever Advertising Group project manager Marina Lima stated that she believes there is currently chaos in Brazil, a gray area where many influencers have not promoted gambling responsibly.
She added that when hiring influencers in Brazil, they must conduct extensive due diligence, as many influencers have previously promoted unlicensed operators, thus, it is crucial that the influencers they hire align with their operator partners.
