On September 9, 2024, the legal advisor of the dismissed Mayor of Banban City, Alice Guo, Atty. Stephen David, stated that he would not force Alice Guo to answer any questions at the upcoming Senate hearing that might lead her to incriminate herself. Atty. David noted that if Guo's statements could be used as adverse evidence in future legal proceedings, he would advise her to refrain from answering.
The Philippine Senate will further investigate her alleged involvement with illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and criminal syndicates on September 9. Alice Guo was extradited back to the Philippines on September 6, is currently detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Detention Center, and will be escorted to the Senate under heavy security on Monday morning at 8 AM.
Furthermore, the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ) stated that if Guo could provide evidence revealing bigger players behind the scenes, she might be considered as a state witness.
Alice Guo currently faces 87 charges of money laundering and one charge of human trafficking, and has been issued an arrest warrant for her absence from multiple Senate investigations. Her case is continuously evolving, and the Senate hopes she will disclose details about how she fled the Philippines and the identities of those who assisted her.
