In the first half of this year, the Danish gambling company (Danske Spil) achieved satisfactory results, with both total gambling revenue and profits increasing, while efforts to ensure healthy gambling habits are making progress and being further strengthened.
For the first half of 2024, Danske Spil's total gambling revenue (BSI) reached 2.546 billion Danish kroner, with a post-tax profit of 1 billion Danish kroner. Compared to the same period last year, BSI increased by 75 million Danish kroner, and post-tax profit increased by 85 million Danish kroner. Therefore, the report released by this state-owned company today is satisfactory, continuing to focus on promoting healthy gambling habits and preventing gambling addiction, including initiatives more suitable for young adult players.
Peter Christensen, Chairman of the Board of Danske Spil, stated: "We are pleased with the developments in the first half of 2024, and I am delighted that we were able to increase revenue and profits while strengthening our efforts to ensure customers develop healthy gambling habits. We are proud to continue maintaining positive developments in recent years, both in terms of community responsibility and profit."
The favorable developments in the financial markets and the sale of Danske Licens Spil's ownership in Swush.com ApS also made a positive contribution to the accounts.
Danske Spil Celebrates Historic Event with the Danish People
In the first half of 2024, Danske Spil increased its total gambling revenue, thanks to high prize pools in lotteries (especially Eurojackpot) and the ongoing positive impact of last year's lottery product changes, increasing the number of millionaires and the size of the top prizes. At Danske Licens Spil, which offers gambling and casinos, BSI slightly decreased to 4 million Danish kroner. However, the number of customers increased, especially during the European Football Championship, showing great interest in the Oddset product.
"Looking back over the past six months, we have strengthened our business and taken on more responsibility. Our lottery remains very popular, and in June, we celebrated a lucky Dane winning the largest prize in Danish history of 760 million Danish kroner. The Eurojackpot prize was 10 million Danish kroner. Danske Spil was established to create profits for the community, while we thoughtfully ensure that Danes can enjoy our games in a safe and reliable environment. I am proud that we have successfully done this—even in the first half of 2024," said Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen, CEO of Danske Spil.
Danske Spil regularly introduces new initiatives in healthy gambling habits and responsibility, and took new measures in 2024. In January this year, Danske Spil introduced measures to reduce deposit limits and increase care contacts for young people, while in May, a large digital prevention area based on research—"Cautious Gaming"—was launched on the company's website.
Meanwhile, the company continues to focus on development, making products more attractive to customers, thereby ensuring that Danske Spil remains the favorite gambling company of the Danish people and ensuring that it mainly creates economic profits for the community through fund allocation.
