The legal action was taken following a complaint by the Association for the Defense of Games and Betting.
Brazil.- The Justice of São Paulo ordered the blocking of access to 15 websites linked to the exploitation of virtual gambling. According to the court proceedings, the public civil action was filed by the Association for the Defense of Games and Betting (Adeja), which claims that the defendants act as intermediaries in the financial flow of unlicensed and unregulated betting sites in Brazil, receiving amounts from users and transmitting them to the platforms. When contacted by the report, the companies mentioned have not yet commented.
“The 35th Civil Court determined, in a preliminary decision, the blocking of access to 15 websites linked to virtual gambling, ordering the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to take the necessary measures with internet providers”, the grounds of the decision of the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJSP) explain.
“In the decision, judge Gustavo Henrique Bretas Marzagão highlighted the notorious negative effects that slot-type games, hosted on clandestine and non-auditable websites, have caused to the population”, affirmed the TJSP.
Furthermore, as highlighted by the magistrate's resolution: “The facts narrated in the initial declaration and the documents accompanying it demonstrate the veracity of the plaintiff's allegations regarding the defendants' participation in the damages suffered by the community, insofar as, as intermediaries in the financial flow, they make the money paid by the user reach the accounts of the owners of the betting sites”.
