Sportradar, a global leader in sports technology, hosted an Integrity Workshop for the professional male team of Clube Atlético Mineiro at Cidade do Galo, in Belo Horizonte. The goal of the initiative is to protect Brazilian football against match-fixing, raising awareness among players and technical staff to identify and avoid such harmful practices to the sport.
During the workshop, last Friday (6), the players received information about real cases illustrating the risks and consequences of match manipulation. The company also explained how it uses advanced technologies and detailed analyses to monitor sports competitions.
“It is very important that the club works with the athletes to raise awareness on this topic. Periodically, we show them the risks and the approaches that can be made to them, in order to double their attention. We also make our legal department available to work together with the football department, in order to take all necessary precautions and prevent us from being harmed”, says Football Director Victor Bagy.
“We encourage all players to report any type of harassment, as only then can we fight to eradicate from football this very harmful and detrimental practice, both for the athlete and for the institution”, adds Victor.
Felippe Marchetti, Integrity Partnerships Manager at Sportradar in Brazil, highlighted the importance of being aware of the problem: “The methods to manipulate results are becoming increasingly sophisticated. It is essential that everyone involved in sports is prepared to recognize and report this practice”.
Responsible for the company's integrity training in the country, Felippe comments that information is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat this crime. “It was very gratifying to see the interest of Atlético players during the presentation. Education and awareness are crucial for us to face this problem together and protect football”.
This workshop is part of a series of trainings that Sportradar conducts at clubs and federations in Brazil and around the world. In addition to Galo, Palmeiras, Náutico, Sport, and Vitória, as well as the Minas Gerais Football Federation and the Northeastern federations have already participated in the educational and prevention initiatives.
The Education and Integrity Prevention programs are part of Sportradar's anti-match manipulation services.
