Philippine President's Office of Communications Minister Cesar Chavez confirmed on Monday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has dismissed the Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Justice Minister Jesus Crispin Remulla first revealed this in an interview yesterday, stating that Tansingco was being removed from his position due to alleged mistakes.

Marcos Jr. said: "The President and I have agreed... to replace him."

He added: "If I were him, I would have resigned already."

On September 4, Remulla stated that he had not communicated with Tansingco because the latter failed to promptly disclose the news of the dismissal of Alice Guo, the former village chief of Danlu Province, who fled the Philippines in August.

Remulla mentioned that besides the former village chief's escape, Tansingco had more unresolved issues.

He said: "There are many such issues... The issuance of work visas is very problematic, I have brought it to his attention, but he did nothing."

Last month, the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights expressed concern that the Immigration Bureau did not immediately convey to the Justice Department the news of Alice Guo's escape from the Philippines.

Tansingco admitted that the Immigration Bureau received detailed information from the Philippine police intelligence unit on August 15.

However, it was not until Senator Hong Zhiwei Veloso publicly shared the news of Guo's escape from the Philippines on August 19 that the bureau verified or shared the news.

Tansingco explained that they notified the Justice Department on August 20, as that was the day the event of Guo's escape was confirmed.

Remulla also suggested that some immigration officials might have assisted Guo in leaving the Philippines.

Despite an immigration lookout bulletin order being issued against her, Guo successfully fled the Philippines.
