In Concepción, Chile, 13 illegal casinos were shut down in a major operation.

Chile.- Officials from the Police of Investigations (PDI) carried out this Monday, September 9, a massive operation in various casinos that were not complying with current regulations and were operating illegally in the center of Concepción, in the Bío Bío region.

According to prosecutor Pamela Lillo, the interventions, executed by the Tactical Reaction Brigade, involved armored vehicles and equipped police officers who entered 13 casinos.

«Today, an operation has been carried out, executed by the Police of Investigations in Greater Concepción and other cities for economic crimes under investigation», stated the prosecutor.

Lillo indicated that the operation in the capital of Biobío resulted in at least 19 people being detained. Additionally, she reported that similar operations were carried out in other regions of the country and added that she will provide more details of the case at the time of the respective control and formalization hearing before the Court of Guarantee.

Regarding street closures, Lillo explained that «as it covers many homes, many properties located in the center of Greater Concepción, the police had to take precautions to ensure the success of the diligence and also the safety of all people whether they are inside the place or pedestrians».

Meanwhile, Prefect Raúl Arancibia, head of the Concepción prefecture, asserted that the PDI, in a collaborative effort with the Public Ministry, has complied with various entry and search orders in seven regions of the country, where approximately 750 detectives were used”.

“The case has been declared secret, therefore we will wait for the results and the start of the detention control hearing and the formalizations to be able to provide information”, explained Arancibia.

The prefect added that during the procedure, gaming machines and electronic devices used for the commission of various crimes were seized.
