Philippine Senator Viera Raimo and Jinggui Estrada suggested on September 10 that a Chinese national assisted former Banban City Mayor Guo Huaping in fleeing the Philippines.
Viera Raimo stated in a surprise interview that the person who helped Guo Huaping escape had a "Chinese name."
When asked if the person Guo Huaping identified was Huang Zhiyang (transliterated), Viera Raimo said: "It's a Chinese name."
Huang Zhiyang is a Chinese fugitive who was found with five passports during a June raid by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) on an online gambling company in Clark City, Bangbangya Province.
Jinggui stated at another press conference that the person Guo Huaping referred to "is a foreigner, reportedly a Chinese citizen. He has fled the country and is now in Taiwan, China."
He said: "I heard he is the boss of all the bosses of online gambling companies."
When asked if this person was Huang Zhiyang, Jinggui answered "very likely."
At a Senate hearing held on Monday (September 9), Guo Huaping said they fled the Philippines on a yacht from the Greater Manila area.
At Monday's public hearing, Guo Huaping refused to disclose the name of the person who helped them escape. Under pressure from the senators, she later wrote the name on a piece of paper.
She stated that the person who arranged their escape was not with them when they fled the Philippines. Only an Asian woman accompanied them.
According to her, the person who assisted her escape initiated the action after an apparent conflict.
She believes the person helped her because they felt "guilty" about her current situation.
Although Guo Huaping was reluctant to publicly reveal the identity of the person who helped them escape, Senator Hong Zhiweilos pointed out that this person had been mentioned earlier in the hearing.
Jinggui also hinted at some information about the person Guo Huaping wrote down on paper, stating that this person holds passports from Saint Kitts and Nevis, China, Cyprus, Dominica, and Cambodia.
Hong Zhiweilos previously noted in a statement that documents submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2019 by Baofu Land Development Company showed that Huang Zhiyang was Guo Huaping's business partner.
Huang Zhiyang is also a defendant in a human trafficking case brought against Guo Huaping by the Ministry of Justice.
