Singapore police raid online gambling activities, arresting 16 people and seizing tens of thousands in cash.

Singapore Police Force conducted raids in multiple local areas, arresting five women and 11 men, aged between 30 to 67, suspected of participating in illegal online gambling activities.

The police statement indicated that the operation was a joint effort by the Criminal Investigation Department, Ang Mo Kio Police Division, and the Police Intelligence Department, targeting locations including Serangoon North Avenue 4 and several other places.

Among the 16 arrested, five were suspected of gambling at illegal gambling premises, while the remaining 11 were members of an illegal gambling syndicate, suspected of funding, organizing illegal gambling premises, and providing online gambling games.

The police also seized over S$48,000 in cash, computers, and other gambling paraphernalia as evidence for the case.

The police noted that four men aged between 30 to 63 and a 61-year-old woman will be charged in court on the 23rd under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Others continue to be under investigation.

According to section 25(1) of the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who provides funds for illegal gambling premises, once convicted, can be fined up to S$500,000 and imprisoned for up to seven years. Anyone who organizes, manages, assists in organizing or managing any illegal gambling premises will be fined up to S$200,000 and imprisoned for up to five years.

Section 23(1) of the Act states that allowing premises to be used for illegal gambling will result in a fine of up to S$500,000 and imprisonment for up to seven years. Those participating in illegal gambling, once convicted, will be fined up to S$10,000 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.

The police stated that they take all forms of illegal gambling activities seriously and will continue to take strict enforcement actions, prosecute those involved according to the law, and advise the public to stay away from all forms of illegal gambling activities.
