The high technical capacity and experience of over 35 years in system and game certification has made GLI the first laboratory authorized by the Secretary of Awards and Betting to serve the Brazilian market. In an exclusive conversation with GMB, Valter Delfraro Jr., executive of governmental relations and business development, stated that the regulation process was exceptional and that the government's Data Processing Service will integrate all systems in the best possible way.
Games Magazine Brasil - Talking about sports integrity in front of GLI is preaching to the choir, since you have been in this market for a long time?
Valter Delfraro Jr. -
It is preaching to the choir, but it is necessary and part of the process at GLI, as well as the issue of responsible gaming and certification. Moreover, we strongly focus on the importance of maintaining sports integrity. It is with all these pillars that we will build a fairer, more serious, and honest industry for all stakeholders.
In addition to all the expertise on this topic, GLI is approved by the Ministry of Finance to certify iGaming in Brazil. Does this also demonstrate the vocation and all the technical competence of the company?
We are the first laboratory to be authorized by the Secretary of Awards and Betting to certify in Brazil, as well as in the state of Paraná. And GLI's commitment is wherever laboratory accreditation is granted, we will be there. We understand that having an accredited laboratory is essential to bring to the jurisdiction, to the regulator, the certainty of the entity that is saying what they will use is paramount.
You are professors in this area, since many of the industry standards bear the name GLI?
GLI has 35 years of experience in the industry and is the laboratory accepted in all jurisdictions around the world where gaming is regulated. Today, approximately 560 jurisdictions. Based on this experience, we have developed the standards that are used not only as technical requirements but as a basis. For example, in Brazil, the Secretary of Awards and Betting for Ordinances 722 and 1207 used GLI-19 and GLI-33 almost in their entirety. If you have one of these certificates, one of these certifications, you are around 80% to 85% compliance with what the Secretary asked the operators to have and be compliant with.
So we need to make a correction, moving to 561 jurisdictions, by including Brazil?
Exactly. We are strong and steady. The way Brazil has been conducting the process is exceptional. At a recent event, at Cibelae, one of the regulators praised the way Brazil has been developing this and the speed with which the country implemented the regulation process.
What will it be like from January 1, 2025, with the regulated market?
I am sure it will be a success. Obviously, we are learning and we have to understand that adjustments will come, which are part of the constant improvement process. We cannot become complacent, but it will certainly start very well and I have no doubt that all involved will be attentive to see what will need to be adjusted to further improve the process. It will be a great start for Brazil.
How is the integration with the platform of the Data Processing Service (Serpro) going? Is it a suitable system for the size expected for the Brazilian market?
We are just starting the certification processes. But I can say that it was the way the regulator understood as the best way to follow the market. Many other jurisdictions use it and I am sure that Serpro, with its capacity and what it already knows and understands, is doing it in the best possible way. They are preparing adequately to meet the volume that the market will demand.
