Gabriel Solano, a leader of the Workers' Party, argues that the current law promotes pathological gambling.

Argentina.- The legislator from the City of Buenos Aires, Gabriel Solano, proposed the total repeal of the law regulating the online betting sector in the city. Solano, who chairs the Workers' Party and is a member of the Left Front, criticized the legislation approved in 2018, stating that it benefits betting houses and fosters addictions.

On his Instagram, Solano commented: "In the Buenos Aires Legislature, I presented a bill to annul the resolution that enabled online gambling. Child gambling addiction is escalating and all necessary measures must be taken to prevent further harm. It is necessary to end the online betting houses and their business definitively."

The legislator also targeted the City government accusing it of "not providing support" or solutions for those suffering from gambling addiction, suggesting that the "only interest of the government is that of the involved companies."

However, the City Government's approach to the issue is underway. The government of the City of Buenos Aires continues to implement strategies to eradicate online gambling in adolescents. In this regard, the city's mayor, Jorge Macri, announced the regulation of cellphone use in schools, a measure aimed at "improving the quality of teaching and promoting the development and self-regulation of children and adolescents."

The resolution of the Ministry of Education establishes that in elementary schools and kindergartens, students should not use their phones in the classroom or during recess, while in secondary school, during classes, they are only allowed to take them out if their teachers request it.

Meanwhile, the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA) announced that during the five months in which it has conducted its awareness workshops for young people, more than 2,400 adolescents from schools and colleges in the city have been trained on topics related to the risks associated with gambling.
