An international flight from Manila, Philippines, landed at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport on September 9th, where two "passengers" were immediately taken into a police car by the waiting police from Xianning, Hubei. It turned out that the two individuals were fugitives Wang Mouyang and Xie Mou, suspected of operating a gambling den and had been hiding in the Philippines for five years.
Going back to December 2018, the Xianning police unexpectedly discovered a "Texas Hold'em" online gambling studio hidden within a residential area during a routine patrol. This studio served as a domestic agent for a foreign online gambling platform, attracting a large number of gamblers through online promotion to participate in illegal gambling activities, and extracting high commissions as illegal income, involving an amount of 285 million RMB. Given the severity of the case, the Xianning Public Security Bureau quickly established a special case team to conduct an in-depth investigation, and this case was subsequently included as one of the key cases supervised by the Ministry of Public Security.
In January 2019, the Xianning police launched a decisive operation, successfully arresting several suspects including 7 members of the studio, and during the subsequent investigation, they destroyed an upstream criminal gang located in Shenyang, controlling four suspects on the spot. However, the main suspects Wang Mouyang and Xie Mou took advantage of the chaos to escape and fled abroad.
After fleeing abroad, Wang Mouyang and Xie Mou continuously hid and refused to return to the country. Despite multiple attempts by the police to reach out through their families, there was no progress. This year, the Ministry of Public Security initiated the 2024 "Golden Eagle" fugitive pursuit operation, and the Xianning police once again thoroughly reviewed and traced the information of the two fugitives, pinpointing their specific location abroad, and went to Shenyang to meet with their relatives to persuade them. By the end of August, they finally made contact with the two. After half a month of communication, Wang Mouyang and Xie Mou decided to return to the country to surrender.
On the afternoon of September 9th, around 3 PM, the Xianning police welcomed Wang Mouyang and Xie Mou at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, who voluntarily returned from the Philippines, and safely escorted them back to Xianning for legal proceedings. Thus, the main suspects in this major online gambling case hosted by the Xianning police were all apprehended, and the case moved into the subsequent trial phase.
