The arrests occurred after the "Operation Patagonia VIP" which dismantled three criminal networks.
Chile.- Six of the 19 detainees in the "Operation Patagonia VIP" were held in pre-trial detention after being notified of the accusations against them for criminal association, illegal casinos, clandestine trade, illegal commerce, and money laundering.
They are the leaders of three criminal organizations dedicated to the exploitation of illegal casinos in Bío Bío and six other regions of the country. The other detainees in the massive operation by the Police of Investigations (PDI), continue to be at the disposal of the Justice under different precautionary measures.
The groups had a series of companies, aesthetic centers, and even a kindergarten, which they used as a front to commit the crime, while the casinos operated despite having been closed down.
The investigation lasted just over a year, highlighted after the formalization, the regional prosecutor of Bío Bío, Marcela Cartegena, in a work that began due to the complaints filed against the illegal casinos. The massive operation carried out last Monday was conducted simultaneously in seven regions of the country, dismantling the organizations.
