The UK Gambling Commission is calling on more operators to get involved with the market’s single customer view tool, GamProtect, after a successful first phase.
The regulator’s executive director, Tim Miller, said at the GamProtect Launch Event that the tool has already identified and helped to protect from gambling harm 5,527 consumers.
Of this cohort, 88 per cent were matched by at least one operator and 66 per cent by at least two.
GamProtect allows operators to share concerns over customers – such as if an operator has closed a customer’s account due to a self-declared marker of health-related gambling harm – with other participating operators.
“We at the Commission are very pleased with the progress that has been made to date,” Miller told the event last week.
“We can also see the opportunities for it expand, with more operators signing up, and the potential for it to continue to strengthen in the future and incorporate other serious markers of harm.
“But before we can even consider the future development of GamProtect further, wider participation from operators is necessary. The views of operators outside of the development group are needed to drive this on.
“So, we encourage those who have not yet done so to engage with GamProtect and BGC [the Betting and Gaming Council] to begin the onboarding process.
“Share in the benefits that your consumers could receive now. Be a part in shaping the future of this important tool. You will have our support in doing so.”
GamProtect has so far gone live with the four largest operator groups in the UK market.
