The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) stated on Tuesday (September 17) that a job fair for workers displaced by the transition of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to Internet Gaming License holders (IGLs) is scheduled for next month.
At the "Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas" forum, DOLE National Capital Region Assistant Director Jude Thomas Trayvilla announced that the special job fair will take place on October 10 in Parañaque City.
He also reported that this year, over 19,000 workers will lose their jobs due to these companies ceasing operations.
Trayvilla said: "As of September 16, 48 IGLs have provided a list of Filipino employees affected by their closure, totaling 19,341 workers, most of whom earn between 16,000 and 22,000 Philippine pesos."
He added that these employees primarily work in administration, data entry, human resources, liaison, finance, and information technology.
DOLE-NCR officials stated: "Currently, DOLE-NCR is still following up with the remaining companies to obtain their employee lists as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, DOLE-NCR Assistant Director Olivia Obrero-Samson also reported that approximately 70 employers are expected to participate in the job fair to be held at Ayala Malls Manila Bay on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard.
The job fair is organized in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the local government unit.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has given POGO companies a deadline to cease operations by the end of 2024.
