The agreement aims to provide information to students, parents, and teachers about the risks of pathological gambling, the differences between legal and illegal gambling, and how to prevent compulsive gambling.
Argentina.- The Minister of Education of the Province of Corrientes, Práxedes López and the administrator of the Lotería Correntina, Héctor Javier Bee Sellares, led the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Institute of Lotteries and Casinos of Corrientes and the educational department.
The main objective of this agreement, and its immediacy in implementation, is to promote responsible gambling among primary and secondary school students. In this way, they seek to provide information to students, parents, and teachers about the risks of pathological gambling, the differences between legal and illegal gambling, and how to prevent compulsive gambling.
In turn, they will implement workshops and talks to encourage healthy gambling habits and promote the playful nature of gambling in the educational context. Surveys will be conducted to assess the prevalence of gambling among students and thus better understand the issue.
The Institute will train teachers and school staff on the subject, there will also be workshops in schools for both students and parents, and anonymous surveys will be conducted to gather data on students' gambling habits.
Initially, the project will be carried out during a school year, with the possibility of renewal. It will start in the City of Corrientes and could expand to other locations if successful.
«For us, this agreement is very important because we have been working on the responsible use of cell phones in classrooms for a long time and we were missing this», emphasized Minister López and highlighted that although digital education is a focus of the Government, precautions must be taken regarding child gambling addiction, a problem that was exacerbated after the pandemic. «We have to take care of the young and what better than this commitment with the Lottery«, she asserted.

The administrator of the Lotería Correntina, Héctor Bee Sellares, emphasized the importance of this agreement and made it clear that together, jointly, a problem that has a basic and elementary concept should be analyzed: «Young people cannot gamble, something obvious that it seems that in this time we should not be repeating«, and yet, «it is a social scourge that started many years ago and was exacerbated in the post-pandemic through cell phones and notebooks».
