What are the new courses in the Madrid community about video games and problematic gaming?

The trainings aim to provide resources to educators in response to the advances of ICTs linked to problematic gaming in children and adolescents.

Spain.- With the goal of preparing educators to address the needs of children and youth in vulnerable situations, including those related to the use of technology and gambling, the Community of Madrid presented two courses on the subject.

In the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid (BOCM), the two new courses, their contents, and evaluation criteria were published for Specialized Educator in Childhood and Youth in Social Difficulty, as well as for Trainer of Trainers in Non-Formal Education.

Both proposals were developed with a comprehensive approach to understand the impact of video games on this age group and their inclusion in professional training to ensure educational interventions.

The course for Specialized Educator in Childhood and Youth in Social Difficulty includes a module dedicated to the phenomenon of video games titled: «Non-substance addictions: ICT and gambling. Video games. Typologies».

This module will address topics such as regulation, risk factors, and protection strategies against the use of video games.
