The province of Cebu, specifically Lapu-Lapu City, is monitoring four areas that might be hosting activities of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Colonel Dyan Agustin, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Police, stated that inspections have been conducted on commercial establishments to uncover any illegal POGO centers operating within the city.
Mayor Junard Chan has established a special task force to ensure that no illegal POGO centers operate within the city.
Agustin mentioned that the task force, composed of staff from various city government departments, has inspected business permits of some commercial establishments in Barangay Basak, where POGO centers are suspected to exist.
Agustin said, "Fortunately, we have not found any POGO centers operating in the area."
Two other areas suspected of hosting POGO centers are also under surveillance.
The special task force was formed after a POGO center was discovered inside a hotel in Barangay Agus. This discovery led to the reassignment of at least four police officers.
In a raid, the police rescued several foreigners. Authorities have filed human trafficking charges against 18 suspects, including 17 Chinese nationals and one Filipino. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of the Central Visayas region plans to bring additional money laundering charges against the suspects.
