From the entity, the measure was highlighted as a milestone for the regulation and consolidation of a safer and more transparent environment for the sector.

Brazil.- The State Lottery of Paraná (Lottopar) issued a note on its official website stating that it approves the decision of the Ministry of Finance, published in the Ordinance No. 1.475/2024, determining that from October 1, betting companies that have not applied for authorization will see their activities suspended until they obtain it.

«Lottopar, the authority responsible for regulating and monitoring counterparty betting in Paraná, received the measure very positively. Currently, Lottopar regulates and supervises five operators in the State, but until now did not have effective legal mechanisms to stop the operation of unregulated websites, since the legislation on this topic is pertinent to the Federal Government," highlighted from the entity.

According to the ordinance, only the operating companies that applied for authorization will be able to continue operating from October to December this year. Companies that applied for authorization, but were not in operation, must wait until January 2025 to start activities, as long as they comply with all the requirements set by law.

For the general director of Lottopar, Daniel Romanowski, this measure "represents a milestone for the regulation and consolidation of a safer and more transparent environment in the lottery and fixed quota betting sector."

"The time has come to separate the serious operators from those who act illegally. With this Ordinance, those who follow the rules, as in the case of Paraná, will no longer face unfair competition from illegal websites, which had the opportunity to regularize, both at the state and federal level, but chose to operate without regulation, in tax havens and, in some cases, even with links to organized crime," declared Daniel Romanowski.

According to the schedule announced by the Ministry of Finance, until December this year, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) will have to analyze the first authorization requests made by betting companies. From January 1, 2025, only operators that comply with the current laws and regulations will be able to operate.
