Councilor Javier Mor Roig presented a proposal to prevent childhood gambling addiction in the capital district of the Province of Buenos Aires.

Argentina.- Various cities in Argentina are advancing in different proposals to combat and eradicate problematic gambling. The latest locality to join this list is the City of La Plata, capital of the Province of Buenos Aires, where councilor Javier Mor Roig presented a project aimed at preventing and fighting this practice.

The project aims to create a Prevention and Awareness Program for “Child and Youth Gambling Addiction”, targeted at children and adolescents, about the risks of online betting games, in order to prevent, protect, and assist against any addiction to these types of games in minors.

Among other things, the project includes the dissemination of material that highlights the dangers and negative consequences of online betting games and juvenile cyber gambling addiction; collaborative coordination with local organizations specialized in the prevention and treatment of gambling addiction and cyber gambling addiction; and the promotion of alternative healthy and recreational activities for adolescents, encouraging the development of skills, as well as participation in social and sports activities.

It also asks the city's Executive Department to manage the restriction of access to online gaming sites through the free and public internet service offered by the municipality in various public spaces. This practice of blocking access to online betting sites on public Wi-Fi networks is a maneuver that has been repeated in various parts of Argentina and, according to those governments that have already applied this practice, it yields results.
