The Ministries of Finance and Health are considering creating an informative guide on addiction and dependency in sports betting in Brazil through a working group on the subject. The idea is that both bodies will act with information exchange to develop joint policies. The guide's production should be completed by the end of this year.
According to the Secretary of Prizes and Betting, Regis Dudena, in an interview with Poder 360, an interministerial working group on the subject will be created. “This interaction will allow us to receive technical information and use it in our relationship with betting houses,” he stated.
Another idea is to determine that betting houses conduct a form with a central focus on health-related themes for customers. The government should develop a base document to be delivered by the companies.
“The agents themselves can provide it. What we intend is to structure a base questionnaire that can be delivered by all market agents,” he said.
The secretary also mentioned a possible way to integrate the SUS (Unified Health System) into actions for treating problems related to a potential addiction.
The expectation is that reports with data on the consumption of betting houses by users, such as screen time and online frequency, will be prepared. However, this is only expected to be carried out in 2025, when the regulation of the houses comes fully into effect.
The working group of the ministries should be composed of technicians from both bodies. The main focus on the side of the Finance will be the Secretary of Prizes and Betting, said the head Regis Dudena.
