According to Thai media, Thai police arrested a 22-year-old Thai man for operating an illegal online gambling website, seizing 2.8 million Thai baht in cash and assets worth over 5 million Thai baht. The suspect admitted to earning about 100,000 Thai baht per day from the site.
Law enforcement officers led by Police Commander Pitak Nasamwas and Deputy Commander Jirapat Moongdee, along with other senior officials, conducted a raid on Mae Ka Street in Chiang Rai. The team arrested 22-year-old Thanes at a residence in Ban Mok Gaeng Tong.
The operation was initiated based on intelligence about illegal online gambling activities at the location. The police started the search after obtaining a warrant from the Phayao Provincial Court. The suspect was found in his room, admitting he rented it for illegal activities.
During the search, the police found a computer, several mobile phones, a WiFi router, 2.8 million Thai baht in cash, a 10-baht gold bar, four gold necklaces, two gold rings, and 10 gold-framed amulets. The total value of the seized assets exceeded 5 million Thai baht.
Thanes admitted to operating the online gambling website, stating that the site had about 50,000 users. He revealed that the business generated an average income of 100,000 Thai baht per day. The police detained him and confiscated the items as evidence.
The police charged Thanes with organizing online gambling through electronic media. He was taken to Mae Ka Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The arrested individual and the confiscated items have been handed over to investigators, who will pursue the case according to the law, as the police reiterated their determination to combat illegal gambling activities through the media.
