The head of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting explained that he will call various state offices to map the market and combat illegal gambling.
Brazil.- The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Brazilian Ministry of Finance will carry out a market mapping of betting in order to more fully understand the real situation of the industry and continue with the task established last week to begin advancing in the separation of legal sites, which have already applied for an operating license, from illegal sites.
For this purpose, and to then continue working with the SPA in controlling market transparency, the head of the government agency, Regis Dudena, stated that he hopes to have the support of the Central Bank, the Federal Police, and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).
“We have planned an interaction with Anatel, with the Federal Police, with security departments, to ensure that websites that are being made available and that are not on the authorized list are eliminated,” he declared in an interview with the media Poder360.
Another goal of the secretariat is to map the size of the betting market. Companies authorized to operate in Brazil must provide reports and monitoring cash flow should help achieve this goal.
“We will have direct contact with these companies and we will know, in fact, the size of the financial volumes, the size of the number of bettors participating. Only from this moment will we, as regulatory bodies of this sector, have this exact number,” affirmed Dudena.
Studies from the private sector that map the size of the betting market would not serve as a parameter. The secretary said that the idea of the Ministry of Finance is to have its own number. “It is obvious that there are different estimates and these estimates are often different from each other because they consider very different things,” he affirmed.
The actions along with other state agencies announced by Dudena do not end there, as the head of the SPA also advanced that in the short-term plans is the creation of a working group with the Ministry of Health. According to him, one of the central themes is the creation of a campaign about gambling addiction.
The agencies are studying the development of an informational brochure on the subject. The idea is that both ministries exchange information to develop joint policies. «This interaction will allow us to receive technical information and use it in our relationship with the betting houses«, reflected Dudena.
The secretary's expectation with the integration is to promote actions linked to the SUS (Unified Health System): “It allows us to share our information with the Ministry of Health so that the system increases its capacity to receive people who have problems“.

Sports is another ministry seen as a partner of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting. Part of the amount collected from the regulation of online betting should be allocated to the promotion of sports practices. Of the total amount collected, 12 percent is allocated to different areas. Of this portion, 36 percent is allocated to sports.
