The Minister of Tourism stated that it will lead to the creation of new tourist hubs. Additionally, he detailed that foreign entrepreneurs have already presented investment proposals.
Brazil.- During the technical meeting of the G20 Tourism Working Group, a group of the world's 20 largest economies, which this year is chaired by Brazil, the South American country's Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, once again supported the Bill 2.234/22, which regulates gambling and betting.
According to the official's assessment to his counterparts from other nations, the enactment of the law will promote the creation of new tourist hubs, through the establishment of casino resorts in various destinations across the country.
«The resort-casinos are projects that use many resources for their implementation, employ and contribute to tourism worldwide», said Sabino and added: «The project is appropriate and will help Brazilians to move around the country and attract more foreign visitors».
Already approved in the Chamber of Deputies, the project is now in the Senate, where the minister believes it could be voted on even before the municipal elections, something that various members of the federal government have been advocating for, although so far they have not been able to accelerate negotiations to bring the project to a vote in the chamber.
The minister could not specify the impact that regulating the sector would have. He cited the estimate of R$20.000m (USD3.620m) used by Senator Irajá, the bill's rapporteur. But he said he preferred to be more “conservative” and wait for Congress's approval to have a “more sensible” assessment.
Sabino also highlighted that the impact will come with the opportunity for entrepreneurs to establish themselves throughout the country, creating integrated resorts with a casino «that will boost culture, gastronomy and attract more foreign tourists». In this regard, the minister stated that they are receiving inquiries from business groups interested in opening casinos of various sizes. Sabino mentioned European, North American, Chinese, Greek, and Chilean entrepreneurs.
