Through an ordinance, the activity will be banned in the locality, despite the recent parliamentary debate that ratified the law regulating it throughout the provincial territory.
Argentina.- On Wednesday, September 18, the Legislature of Córdoba approved, by a single vote, the modification of Law 10.793, enacted in 2021, which regulates gambling in the province. In a close vote, the provincial ruling party achieved the continuity of the activity, applying changes to the norm, and thus opposed the proposal that proposed the repeal of the law.
However, after the parliamentary debate, the mayor of the town of La Calera, Fernando Rambaldi, announced that he will move towards the prohibition of online betting in said municipality. Thus, despite the modifications that will be made to the provincial norm, a municipal ordinance will prohibit the inhabitants of that locality from accessing the sites regulated by law.
«The Municipality of La Calera, using its autonomy, decides to adopt preventive measures to protect the community from the harmful effects of online gambling», indicates the text of the decree.
«We are going to block the IP addresses. We work with the service providers of the city throughout our jurisdiction and especially in municipal public buildings. We want to extend it to the Wi-Fi and internet signals of schools and buildings. It is the municipality that regulates the local internet providers. We will make the corresponding requests», said the mayor in a conversation with the local media La Voz.
«This week I signed the decree to prohibit gambling in La Calera. We must raise awareness, prevent, and educate so that our young people do not fall into gambling addiction: online games are the new drug of the 21st century. Betting is not a game», later affirmed Fernando Rambaldi on his social networks. In this way, the municipality becomes the first to rise against the recently ratified Provincial Law 10.793.
While in La Calera access to online betting sites will be banned, other municipalities announced measures aimed at combating problematic gambling, but which do not include the prohibition of the activity nor access by the inhabitants.
In Jesús María, for example, a measure that has been replicated in various Argentine municipalities will be carried out, which consists of blocking access to these sites but only from public Wi-Fi networks.

«We approved an ordinance to block all online betting sites from the internet networks provided by the municipality. We block the respective IP addresses and URLs», explained Federico Zárate, mayor of Jesús María, to La Voz.
