The importance of integrity in Brazilian sports and the betting market was the theme of a meeting between the Ministry of Sports, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA). The meeting brought contributions to the construction of an ordinance for the prevention and combat of event result manipulation.

In the meeting, the current scenario in Brazil was discussed, amid the process of regulating betting houses, also considering international experiences on the subject. The participants highlighted the main challenges and suggestions of measures to prevent result manipulations, which harm both sports modalities and bets.

The president of ANJL, Plínio Lemos Jorge, said that the idea was to gather contributions from the market, represented by the association, with the keen insight of IBIA, the world's leading authority in the area, for the construction of an ordinance on the subject.

Since last year, when the first operations resulting from police and public prosecutor investigations were launched, ANJL has been affirming how harmful result manipulations are for the entire sector. These schemes 'break the bank' of betting houses and also put the reputation and credibility of sports events in Brazil at risk. In other words, it is bad for everyone, including the honest bettor,” said Plínio.

The meeting was attended by the National Secretary of Sports Betting and Sports Development, Giovanni Rocco, and directors from various areas of the ministry-affiliated secretariat.

From ANJL, the president Plínio Lemos Jorge, and the legal consultants Ana Bárbara Teixeira and Pietro Cardia were present. Representing the COB, were the coordinator of the Division for the Prevention of Competition Manipulation, Paulo Schmitt, and the legal director Luciano Hostins.

The IBIA, which is a partner of integrity of the IOC, was represented by Silvia Paleari and Antonio Abdilla Zefara, Director of Institutional Relations and Project Consultant, respectively.

Launched in March 2023, the National Association of Games and Lotteries defends the interests of its members, the sector, and responsible and honest gaming, always guided by the encouragement of sports, the safety of bets, and the contribution to the economic development of the country.

Among the members are GaleraBet/PlayTech, Big Brazil, F12, PagBet, BetNacional, Mr. Jack, Parimatch, BetFast, Aposta Ganha, Liderança Capitalização, ZRO Bank, Propane, PAAG, Clear Sale, BetBox tv, StarsPay, WEpayments, 1xBet, and PG Soft.
