The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) Spelinspektionen has announced a new initiative to strengthen the fight against illegal gambling outside the regulatory licensing system.
This initiative aligns with the agency's ongoing efforts to protect consumers, maintain public health, and ensure fair taxation.
The core of this initiative is a comprehensive analysis of the situation of illegal online gambling in Sweden.
The analysis is expected to be completed by January 2025 and aims to provide a detailed overview of the current situation, including identifying the main participants and methods used to circumvent existing gambling and related legislation.
The findings of this investigation are expected to be a valuable resource not only for the Singapore Gambling Authority (SGA) but also for other regulatory bodies and stakeholders in the gambling market.
The Director-General of the Swedish Gambling Authority, Camilla Rosenberg, emphasized the importance of this initiative and noted that the report will aid in combating illegal online gambling in the future.
She mentioned that the overview will study international comparisons and propose strategies to strengthen the fight against illegal gambling in the future.
The report will also provide recommendations for any necessary legislative changes to further strengthen the country's regulatory framework.
Earlier this year, the Swedish Gambling Authority announced that it had joined the Sports Integrity Lottery Union (ULIS) and became its associate member, marking a joint commitment to protecting sports from match manipulation.
