A recent report by TGM Research indicates that online slot games have become the most popular form of gambling among Thai gamblers, followed by online sports betting.

This report is one of six recent publications by TGM focused on various Asia-Pacific regions, revealing the changing landscape of sports betting in Thailand, emphasizing significant shifts in consumer behavior and preferences.

The survey was conducted from June 1 to July 31, 2024, gathering insights from 142 individuals aged between 18 to 54, providing a comprehensive overview of the country's gambling habits.

The report shows that online and mobile platforms have transformed the way Thais engage in sports betting, marking a significant shift from traditional methods.

Participants reported an increase in the frequency of casino-style games and sports betting, with particular interest in the upcoming 2024 UEFA European Championship, which has garnered high interest among gamblers.

According to TGM, 20% of respondents indicated that they had engaged in gambling and sports betting activities in the past 12 months, meaning they had visited casinos, placed bets online, or wagered on esports online. It is estimated that the potential adult audience for gambling or sports betting in the country is about 14.3 million people.

In the past 12 months, online slot games have become the most popular form of gambling in Thailand, with 44% of respondents participating.

Sports betting via apps follows closely, with 40% of people betting on events such as football and horse racing. Lottery games, such as Powerball and bingo, attracted 33% of gamblers, with another 33% participating in online card games.

Informal sports betting among friends, live casino games, and real-life event betting are also prominent. Only 7% of respondents indicated no gambling activities.

Betting frequency shows that 34% of casino gamblers and 28% of sports bettors place bets several times a week, indicating relatively frequent participation. However, only 10% and 9% of gamblers bet daily on casino games and sports events, respectively.

Compared to the Asia-Pacific region, Thailand exhibits similar gambling behaviors, although weekly participation in casino and sports betting platforms is lower in the Asia-Pacific region.
