The Evangelical Parliamentary Front (FPE) in the Senate continues to work to dismiss the proposal.
Brazil.- The efforts of evangelical deputies against the bill 2.234/22, which seeks to legalize gambling, did not manage to stop its approval in the full Chamber of Deputies last February, nor in the Senate's Committee on Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) this June.
However, the senators from the evangelical bench continue to work to dismiss the proposal, which was already discussed in a thematic session last month. Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) stated that the Evangelical Parliamentary Front (FPE) in the Senate is collaborating with other legislators to halt the progress of the project. According to Malta, the legalization of gambling could bring serious consequences for Brazilian society.

Malta expressed that he opposes the legalization of gambling in Brazil, as it could generate negative social and economic effects, such as an increase in crime, exploitation of the most vulnerable, and the risk of addictions, among others.
He also highlighted that he has conducted a social media campaign to raise awareness about the dangers associated with the opening of casinos and gambling.
According to a report from the Senate Agency, during the debate session, the president of the Chamber, Rodrigo Pacheco, acknowledged the complexity of the project, which encompasses economic and social issues. "We must carefully analyze the potential benefits, such as job creation and resources for the Brazilian state, but also the risks, such as money laundering and the fight against organized crime, in addition to the social and public health impact of gambling addiction," he declared.
Let us remember that the bill 2.234/22 is currently in the Senate, awaiting its processing. According to information from the Presidency of the Republic, amendments to the project were presented in the CCJ in June, and it was reassigned to the rapporteur, Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), who will issue a new report.
