The National Investigation Bureau conducted a surprise inspection on a building in Hongxi Lishi City, Bangbangya Province, which housed a marriage scam targeting Westerners.
The agents discovered 85 individuals "working" on computers, targeting foreign social media users and luring them into "romance scams" to invest in cryptocurrency.
Kapuleiso, the director of the third district of the National Investigation Bureau, stated: "Upon verification, illegal activities were confirmed inside the building. After obtaining a search warrant, we inspected the computer data and found they were targeting dating sites on social media."
Among those arrested was a woman allegedly exploited by the organization to video call the victims.
Kapuleiso said: "They target foreign investors, Americans or Europeans, often retired individuals with nothing to do, knowing these foreigners have pensions!"
Following the search warrant, the National Investigation Bureau is currently examining seized mobile phones and computers to identify foreign victims.
