The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, stated on Monday (30) that between 500 and 600 betting sites that have not applied for regulation with the government will have their websites taken down next week by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and that bettors should withdraw their money as soon as possible from the betting platforms.

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, mentioned that the government is preparing to block payment methods, restrict advertising, and monitor CPFs for approximately 500 to 600 betting sites that did not have their license applications registered by the General Betting System (Sigap) before the stipulated deadline (August 20).

"It is necessary to clarify to the public that there was a legal command for the previous government to regulate the bets. We had a very bad period in which the games grew without state intervention to protect society. President Lula determined that we should take measures,” said Haddad.

"Just as X went off the air, these companies must also go off, due to a lack of compliance with the legislation approved by the National Congress", he stated during an interview with Jornal da CBN. "If you have money in a betting house, ask for a refund now".

Haddad also stated that the government is preparing to block payment methods such as credit cards and Bolsa Família cards on betting sites. Additionally, the department will monitor the evolution of prizes by CPF for each bettor.

"Those who bet a lot and win little are psychologically dependent, those who bet little and win a lot are generally laundering money".

The minister said he is scheduled to meet on Tuesday with entities from the sector to discuss the issue of betting advertising, which is "out of control".

When asked about the proposal discussed by experts to show bettors how much money has already been lost, Haddad went further, stating that, in certain cases, family members should also have access to this data.

"Even in the case of an adult with means, is it just him who needs to know how much he lost?", he said.

"Just as I could set my phone to receive this data, I could also register my spouse's phone. There are people who lose thousands of dollars. How do you leave the family without the due alert?"
