Both Senators Anabel Fernández Sagasti and Carolina Losada, as well as Senator Daniel Bensusán, requested the "urgent" treatment of the projects.
Argentina.- A group of national senators representing three Argentine provinces presented, last Thursday, September 26, motions for the projects related to preventing child gambling addiction to be treated "urgently" once they have a committee opinion.
Speaking up, the vice president of the Unión por la Patria interblock, Anabel Fernández Sagasti, from Mendoza, recalled that a month ago she introduced an initiative proposing "a regulatory framework for online gambling and betting for the prevention of cyber gambling addiction" and emphasized: "It is an urgent issue."
The senator demanded "to urgently take care of setting clear rules." Regarding her project, she explained that, among some points, it “typifies the crime of intermediation to cashiers” who “unfortunately in most cases are vulnerable women.” It also seeks to "provide tools to parents and teachers" and prohibits advertising.
Other senators who presented motions in the same sense were the Pampean Daniel Bensusán, from Unión por la Patria, and the Santa Fe native Carolina Losada, from the Unión Cívica Radical.
It is worth remembering that last August, the Chamber of Deputies resumed the debate in committees on the various law projects that seek to respond to the advance of cyber gambling addiction that mainly affects teenagers and young people.
In this regard, on August 13, the Commissions on Addiction Prevention and Narcotics Control; Social Action and Public Health; Communications and Informatics; Penal Legislation; and Families, Childhood and Youth met jointly to hear from specialists linked to the topic.
The issue of cyber gambling addiction was already debated during two plenary sessions of committees on June 12 and July 3, in which rounds of speakers were held, with the participation of prominent specialists and representatives from various sectors involved.
