This is a report prepared in collaboration with the General Directorate of Schools (DGE) and the Ministry of Health and Sports of the province.
Argentina.- The Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos (IPJyC Mendoza) continues its task of prevention, awareness, and promotion of healthy and responsible use of technologies.
In this regard, the regulatory body of the Mendoza gaming sector released a document prepared together with the General Directorate of Schools (DGE) and the Ministry of Health and Sports of the province, which provides key support material to address the issues related to technology use, focusing on illegal online betting by minors under 18 years old.
The president of IPJyC and the Association of State Lotteries, Pools, and Casinos of Argentina (ALEA), Ida López, highlighted that this document is part of a prevention and awareness campaign that has been carried out both nationally by ALEA and provincially by the institute.
López stated: “We consider this to be an issue that must be addressed comprehensively and interdisciplinarily, and for this, access to information is fundamental. That's why we are disseminating this material to provide tools for prevention, approach, and assistance channels to the entire society”.
The document offers detailed information about problematic consumption, its differences from responsible consumption, the correct terminology to refer to consumption issues and technologies, and online games as a consumption issue.
It also refers to the risks faced by players if they bet on illegal platforms, warning signs, and measures that can be taken to prevent and/or address a situation of problematic consumption along with help and assistance channels.
With the goal of working together to develop preventive measures against gambling pathologies in Mendoza, especially in minors, last August, the authorities of the Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos (IPJyC Mendoza) and academic representatives from the National University of Cuyo (UNCuyo) met.
During the meeting, they worked on the development of preventive measures against gambling pathologies, especially in minors. They also agreed to develop joint strategies for the statistical measurement of illegal online gambling among minors in secondary schools; the possibility of covering the university environment was also discussed.
