Today, Ordinance 1,475, which prohibits companies that did not request authorization to operate, comes into effect.
Brazil.- In the last two weeks, another 31 companies have submitted authorization requests to the Management System for Betting (SIGAP) of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance to operate in the online fixed-odds betting and gaming market. These new applications emerged following the publication of Ordinance 1,475, through which operators who have not applied for their license must cease operations starting from October, which has just begun.
With these new applications, there are now 150 license applications from 145 companies aiming to operate in the regulated market, which could potentially increase to 450, as the law allows each company to operate up to three commercial brands in Brazil. If all platforms are approved, the government could collect R$ 4.5 billion (USD 826 million) solely through fixed grants.
Fixed-odds betting companies that have not yet applied for authorization to operate will see their operations suspended starting October 1. According to the Ordinance, from next month until the end of December, only betting companies that are already operating and have applied for authorization to explore the fixed-odds lottery betting modality will be able to operate.
Starting in October, companies that did not request authorization will be classified as illegal until the Ministry of Finance allows them to operate. Betting sites operating in Brazil without authorization will be subject to the penalties provided by law.
