The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) reported that the country’s gambling channelisation rate has reached 86%, following the development of a new calculation method. The channelisation rate measures the percentage of gambling activity conducted through licensed operators.
Last year, the Swedish government tasked the SGA with refining the method used to calculate this figure.
Prior to the introduction of Sweden’s licensing system in 2019, the channelisation rate was less than 50%, the SGA said.
To calculate the 2023 rate, the SGA relied on four key indicators: player surveys, internet traffic analysis, turnover data from licensed gambling software operators, and insights from the analytics firm H2 Gambling Capital.
