The Canadian province of Alberta will not open its regulated igaming market until 2025 to offer time for “more input” on the model.
Speaking to Canadian Gaming Business, the press secretary for Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally diffused speculation that the market could open in November this year.
“Industry stakeholders have told us that we need to continue our conversations so they can provide more input on the model. We are doing just that,” Brandon Aboultaif said.
“Further engagements will also help to identify opportunities to align the strategy with our red tape reduction priorities.
“While we aim to put the strategy forward in 2025, we will continue to provide updates as this work unfolds.”
Nally revealed plans to open Alberta to regulated igaming at the SBC Americas conference in June, proposing to follow the model of fellow Canadian province Ontario.
