The Gokongwei Group, through its real estate subsidiary Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), plans to invest 10 billion Philippine pesos (approximately 160.9 million euros) in new hotel development projects, entering the luxury hotel market. According to the latest disclosure to the stock exchange by RLC, this move will add over 990 hotel rooms to various projects in the Philippines. This expansion reflects RLC's intention to further consolidate its leading position in the hotel industry.
Key Projects in Cebu and Metro Manila
One of the main projects in this 10 billion Philippine peso investment is the ultra-luxurious "NuStar" hotel in Cebu, which will be a significant part of the NUSTAR Resort Complex. In the Metro Manila area, RLC will launch the first local five-star hotel brand "Fili" in the busy Bridgetowne district.
Barun Jolly, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Business Division at Robinsons Hotels and Resorts (RHR), stated that these new hotels will meet the demand for high-end experiences from both local and international guests, further highlighting the company's commitment to enhancing the Philippine hospitality industry on the global stage. Jolly mentioned, "Our growth is closely linked to the Gokongwei Group's commitment to providing the best hospitality choices in various travel segments."
Jolly added, "Fili is a project filled with passion, celebrating Philippine hospitality culture while setting a new international standard for luxury." He emphasized that this brand will symbolize the Philippines' outstanding performance in the hotel industry. Fili Hotel has received widespread attention and won the Best Hotel Architectural Design award at the 18th Property Guru Asia Property Awards.
Expanding the Robinsons Hotel Portfolio
With these planned development projects, RHR—a subsidiary of RLC—will expand its current portfolio of 30 hotels operating in 20 cities across the Philippines. In addition to "Fili" and "NuStar," RLC also plans to launch two new branches of its lifestyle hotel brand "Grand Summit" in Cebu and Pangasinan. This move follows the successful opening of the first Grand Summit hotel in General Santos City in 2021.
The newly built Pangasinan Grand Summit Hotel will be located next to Robinsons Place Mall in Calasiao, while the Cebu branch will complement the NUSTAR Resort Complex, offering world-class facilities and services to guests.
Driving Long-Term Growth
RLC's investment in the luxury hotel sector is a strategic move to attract affluent travelers and drive long-term growth. These projects are part of the broader strategy of the Gokongwei Group, aimed at enhancing customer experience and expanding its hotel industry footprint.
With the hotel industry continuing to recover post-pandemic, RLC's investment demonstrates its confidence in the growing demand for high-end and ultra-luxury accommodations in the Philippines.
