The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) announced on October 3rd that it has suspended the license of Dimsacon Limited starting from August 21, 2024. This suspension follows the earlier suspension of the Maltese license of Goldwin Ltd, marking the second such announcement this week.
According to the regulatory body's press release, Dimsacon, which holds the RN/225/2021 accreditation notice, is now unable to conduct any gaming activities within or outside Malta. This suspension is implemented under Article 8(1)(f) of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations (S.L. 583.06), indicating the company's failure to comply with specific regulatory requirements.
The MGA's decision includes provisions under Article 9, such as Article 9(1)(m), emphasizing that the action was taken because Dimsacon failed to meet regulatory standards. However, Dimsacon still has the right to appeal this decision under Article 43 of the Gaming Act (Malta Law Chapter 583).
The Role of MGA in Global Gaming Regulation
Malta is widely regarded as one of the leading and most respected online gaming jurisdictions globally, hosting the largest number of licensed operators. According to recent data, Malta's iGaming industry has seen continuous growth over the past decades, accounting for over 12% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The country's gaming regulatory body, the Malta Gaming Authority, plays a crucial role in regulating both online and physical gaming activities. By imposing strict standards on operators, the MGA maintains the integrity of the industry. Through fostering international cooperation and adopting best regulatory practices, the MGA ensures that Malta continues to be a trusted jurisdiction for global gaming operators. Through this commitment, the MGA not only protects the industry's reputation but also promotes its sustainable development.
