The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will provide about 14,000 local and overseas job opportunities for workers who have been laid off due to the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma stated that two job fairs in Metro Manila will offer 13,744 job vacancies, located at the Manila Bay Ayala Malls in Parañaque City and Ayala Malls Circuit in Makati City.
"There are two venues for the job fair... to address the accessibility issues of job seekers," he said in a telephone interview.
At the Parañaque City venue, 60 local employers will participate, offering 8,162 job positions.
Job opportunities include industries such as business process outsourcing, wholesale and retail, transportation and logistics, construction, tourism, hospitality, and health and wellness.
At the Makati City job fair, 44 local employers and 4 overseas recruitment companies will offer 5,582 positions.
Available job positions include nurses, cleaners, butchers, plumbers, bus drivers, auto mechanics, fire truck electricians, welders, cruise ship workers, and production operators among other overseas employment opportunities.
Previously, DOLE data indicated that the affected POGO workers facing unemployment risk numbered 79,735, including both Filipinos and foreign employees.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. had earlier directed the Department of Labor to find employment opportunities for Filipinos who might be unemployed due to the POGO ban.
