The Commission of Constitution and Justice (CCJ) of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro approved the sending of an information request to Loterj regarding the accreditation of sports betting companies at the state level. The request was an initiative of the CCJ president, deputy Rodrigo Amorim. The parliamentarian explained that he received numerous complaints of irregularities in the accreditation of the bets.
The information request was unanimously approved during a meeting held this Wednesday (9). The information should be sent by the president of Loterj, Hazenclever Lopes Cançado.
The request to Loterj was an initiative of the CCJ president, deputy Rodrigo Amorim (União). The parliamentarian explained that he received numerous complaints of irregularities in the accreditation of the bets after the discussion last week, by the CCJ, of Bill 3.299/24, authored by him. The proposal prohibits advertising and sponsorship of betting companies in sports activities in the State of Rio.
“The accusation we received is that there is selectivity by Loterj in accrediting these companies. Some of them have been in line for some time and are not accredited and there is a case of a company accredited in 48 hours”, explained the parliamentarian.
Regulation of companies
Deputy Luiz Paulo (PSD) asked to include in the information request questions related to judicial issues of regulation of these companies.
“There is a judicial decision in force that allows the regulation of bets at the state level, regardless of national regulation, which makes this issue even more complicated. It is important for the deputies to know exactly what falls under Loterj and what is the responsibility of the Union. It is also necessary to know all the ongoing judicial processes, which are still in the appeal phase, in addition to the type of regulation used by Loterj. With these answers, we can be more precise in creating bills”, declared.
Deputy Carlos Minc (PSB) also requested the inclusion of questions about measures for the prevention of addictions and financial deviations. “It is necessary to know if the accreditation of companies by Loterj addresses these issues. It is urgent to advance on this topic in some way, by discussing projects here at Alerj”, he said.
The president of the CCJ agreed with the inclusion of all the requests from the members of the committee. Amorim also emphasized that the information request is not about addressing the liberalization or restriction of sports betting.
“We are not entering this field, even though I have my formed opinion and believe that bets cause addictions and can be harmful to the economy, with the evasion of currency. But the information request is about the specific issue of the accreditation of Loterj, since there are complaints of irregularities. The topic is in the heat of the moment and we, as deputies, have to be informed of what is happening”, concluded.
